I understand the limitations and barriers we encounter based on our sociolocations. Being raised in a religious community with Southern influences, sex and sexuality was never something I was encouraged to explore. Growing up, my identity was pushed on me by my community. I did not know how to explore my authentic self, and as a result, those who were important to me didn’t know my true self either! I believe that this robbed me of important opportunities to create deep and meaningful connections with those I loved.
It was through my own therapeutic process that I was able to explore and accept who I wanted to be. I am now more comfortable allowing people to see my authentic self and am able to form deep connections with them without hiding my multiple identities. I want to help my clients find their authentic selves so that they can experience deep freedom and connection.
In our work together, I will use Narrative Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy to guide our therapeutic process. I am sex positive and believe in the power of sex education, and would love to incorporate sexuality exploration in our work together if that feels helpful to you. Also, I am aware that we all come from different cultural influences and wish to acknowledge that when exploring your multiple identities.
When I’m not working, I’m usually relaxing at home, exploring the vast amount of food carts in Portland, or on the lookout for the cutest dogs this city has to offer.
